13th International Feminist New Materialisms Conference: Enfleshing Literature Beyond Words.
What is literature? What can a literary work make a body do?
We invite you to the 13th International Feminist New Materialisms Conference at the University of Granada from June 1st to June 2nd, 2026.
Building on 15 years of network history (https://newmaterialism.eu/about/cost-action-is1307.html), from digital cultures to environmentalism, we now aim to examine the practices that consolidate our own academic genealogies. We gather to explore the vibrant "interferences" between feminist new materialisms and literature. We move beyond the idea of literature as mere text enclosed in words. Instead, we approach the literary artifact as a modality of knowledge —an apparatus "yet-to-come" that allows us to revisit our pasts, inhabit our current experiences, and reimagine our futures in deeply affective and imaginative ways.
In a world organized by hegemonic structures, we seek to "look around". We aim to examine the practices that consolidate our academic canons and find the "wonders" that inspire respond-able pedagogies. Whether through decolonial perspectives, the impact of generative AI, or the ecologies of affect, this conference is a space to cartograph the entanglements that define our field today.
Apart from academic papers, we also count on conversations with contemporary writers Gabi Abrão (https://gabiabrao.substack.com/) and Alejandra Smits (https://www.alejandrasmits.com/), plenary keynote speakers such as Prof. Dorota Gorlanska (https://www.uni.lodz.pl/en/employee/dorota-golanska) and Prof. Helen Palmer (https://www.attp.tuwien.ac.at/team/helen-palmer/). Additionally, we will have a special roundtable to pay tribute to Prof. Marie-Luise Angerer (hiperlink: https://www.zem-brandenburg.de/en/akteure/prof-dr-marie-luise-angerer-2/) organized by Prof. Felicity Colman (https://researchers.arts.ac.uk/1480-felicity-colman)
Join us in Granada to enflesh our genealogies and materialize new academic horizons.
